Zoe's Story

Hi EskieFriends,

I'm a 10-yr-old little sweetheart, about 13 pounds of pure love. I was found as a stray in Jacksonville FL in mid June. A wonderful couple found me and took me to the vet for a quick look see and to update my shots. They discovered I was heart worm positive!

The couple had me treated for the heart worms one time but then found out they could not keep me. They took me to a shelter, which made me very sad.

The shelter contacted Caroline Wood, a Rat Terrier rescue person in Jacksonville, and Caroline contacted Kitten Jones. Since Kitten's shelter is overflowing right now Kitten posted my info to the southeastern eskie rescue list. The list went to work immediately and, like
the angels they are, they found a foster for me in Columbus Ga!!

While arranging transport, Caroline's vet noticed I was having trouble with one of my eyes. He said that the eye may have to be removed! A veterinary opthamologist was called in to have a look at my eye. He looked at my eye for FREE!!!! He says that the eye is causing some pain (I knew that!) and will need to be removed. The problem could be caused by either a tumor, or by an earlier injury to the eye.

My foster mom in Columbus GA took me to her vet for evaluation and estimate for the treatment. The problem with immediate surgery is that I just had my second heartworm treatment. We need to wait a while before putting me under anthesia for the surgery.

Foster mom is a senior citizen and lives on a very fixed income, so I need EFs' help to get the care I need for my eye initially.

AND GUESS WHAT!!?? My foster mom has a very kind heart and is seriously considering adopting me for herself, not wanting to put me through another move at my age. And....I really like it here! She is taking real good care of me. I don't want to leave!
Once I am completely recovered from my HW treatment and able to undergo anthesia, my painful eye will be removed.

My vet's estimate for my eye removal, as well as my following up on my HW treatment to make sure all is okay for my surgery, is $368.

I may be 10 years old, but I'm a sweetheart. Thank you EskieFriends for giving me....a second chance at life.....a life without pain! Luv ya!
