Buddy's Story
Hi EskieFriends,

My name is Buddy. My mate, Keisha, and I were turned into the Newport Animal Shelter a couple of weeks ago. We were a breeding pair from a back yard breeder. We had never been inside a house, bathed, vaccinated, on a leash, or shown any affection. We were yellow and brown, terrified messes! Our foster Mom Jennifer Milam got us and gave us baths to make us white again. Then Jennifer took us to Animal Works for rabies shots, HW tests, and fecal exams. Keisha was in heat and has had several litters of puppies at only 3 years old. Surprisingly, she is healthy. She has had to defend her self relentlessly throughout her life. She only knows how to snarl, but is learning to smile. She has never growled, but her face always looks like she is growling because that is how it has been most of her life.

I was infested with hookworms and heartworms, and my teeth are in bad need of a cleaning, some may have to be pulled. I am heartworm positive.

We have come a long way in the few weeks we have been with Jennifer. Our coats are now white and beautiful. We are both mini eskies, 15 and 20 lbs. We are not walking well on a leash yet. We are working on our fear of leashes and FosterMom has switched us to harnesses instead of collars.

We have grown to love the attention we get and we are getting along fine with the other dogs. We are both rather calm. Keisha is a bit food aggressive, probably because she had to fight to get enough food. I have not shown any aggression except when Keisha was in heat around the other males. I needed to protect her, but there was never a fight, only growls.

I like to take naps with Jennifer on the couch while Keisha lays nearby in the floor. We are housebroken. We like to be close to people. Keisha gives lots of eskie kisses but I'm still learning. I want to be close to FosterMom at all times. We are great dogs and will make someone very happy.

We do not leave each other's side. Because of our background, we will only be adopted out together and to an exceptional home once my treatment is complete and I have been neutered.

I went to Animal Works for my heartworm treatment on Sat, June 22nd. Animal Works (www.animalworksonline.com) is a non-profit shelter for low-income familes and works with rescues. They are absolutely terrific. I stayed there for 4 days and they provided everything, including my food. Best of all, for my heartworm treatment, they only charged us $40!! Yep, only $40.

If you are interested in adopting us, contact Jennifer. Her website is www.tnreskies.org There are more pictures of us there!!!

Thank you EFs for paying my bill. I have surely gotten....a second chance at life!

Eskie Hugs & Kisses, Luv & Licks,
Buddy
