August 2001 Dogbowl Payout: Lakota
LAKOTA's Story
I'm one lucky furboy!! My name, NEW name,
is Lakota. I use to be called Dion. Kim Galloway
received a call from my owners, who had only
had me for a couple of weeks. I had been
bounced around from home to home and the
current owners TOO, decided it wasn't working
out. Oh no, here we go again!! The people
had no knowledge of any previous vet care
and they had provided none.
Kim had also received a call from a woman
in Tennessee who was looking for an eskie
as a companion to her other dog. Kim told
her about me and put the lady in touch with
my owners. This lady drove down from Tennessee
down to Atlanta to get me on a Sunday night.
My owners told her that I had no vet history
but the lady adopted me anyway. My new owner
called Kim the next day, Monday, stating
she had taken me to her vet to be groomed
and vaccinated, and was informed that I was
heartworm positive. OH NO!! My new owner
became cold and nasty. She said she could
not afford the treatment. And, she "didn't
want me around her other dog". Imagine
that!!! Kim told her she would do what she
could to raise the money for the treatment
and would call her back the next day.
Kim called my new owner on Tuesday and left
a message on her machine of a possible rescue
group that could cover the treatment. My
new owner never returned my phone call. Two
days later Kim received an email from a vet
clinic in Tennessee regarding an eskie that
had been abandoned. Sure enough, it was ME!
Not only had my new owner never returned
to pick him up, she was also such a coward
that she left a message on the clinic's answering
machine after hours saying to have me DESTROYED!!!
Lucky for me the vet refused to do it since
I am such a wonderful, sweet little boy.
I'm only two years old.
A great transport group, Rescue Angels on
Wheels, transported me and two other needy
dogs to a clinic in Columbus, GA where we
were kenneled until homes could be found.
I have been neutered too. Marti Jeffers in
Atlanta has been kind enough to give the
clinic her American Express number to pay
for all the vet care, but it is getting quite
expensive. I started my heartworm treatment!!
YEA!! I am doing fine. I will have to go
back for my final HW test, so please cross
fingers and paws!
I will make someone a WONDERFUL pet. I'm
a handsome Eskie! If you or someone you know
would like to adopt me,
please contact Marti Jeffers at
