March 2001 Dogbowl fund payout: Alex!

Due to $471 being returned from the Feb. fundraiser for Lady Day's expenses(in the end, the expense was taken care of without needing our funds, so the money was returned!), we had enough in our EskieFriends DogBowl to pay for our next dire need dog, Alex. Her story and pics are on this page.

Hi, I'm Alex...a beautiful, loving, gorgeous fuzzy white angel! The Dog Beautiful!! An American Eskimo Dog!! An ESKIE!!

I lived with my original family for my whole life. Then when I was 11 years old, my family had a human baby. The baby started walking and would come close to me when I was eating. So I growled. I didn't want the toddler to take MY food!! I guess my Mom and Dad didn't like that. They decided to drop me off at the Dane County Humane Society in WI and keep the baby.

At the shelter, the staff fell in love with me. I loved all the attention anyone was willing to give me(can you imagine?). I often barked when I heard my favorite caregivers walk by.

Given my advanced age, they knew that finding the right home might not be easy. They decided to spay me, but during the initial work-up the vet found 4 small mammary tumors. With my age and these tumor findings, there was more concern that the right home may NOT be found. Not many people would spend big bucks on saving a "Golden" girl like me needing surgery. I was very active and in great spirits and I didn't act old!

So Aimee Moore talked to a few people, found out about these fundraisers and decided to ask Pat if anything could be done for me. The shelter was willing to help me if the funds could be raised for my surgery.

The shelter decided to keep me for a few weeks to see if they could find anyone, but no one was found. I don't understand this!! Who wouldn't want me?? I'm so cute and absolutely loving!!

Finally Judy Gregg decided to help. She said if it looked like no home would be found, she would foster her. Judy became my FosterMom. You Eskie owners know the power of Eskies, right?

Well...I surprised Judy and wormed my way right into her heart. Guess she developed a white fuzzy HeartWorm, teeheeheehee! Judy is now MY PERMANENT MOM!! I have a wonderful FOREVER home. YEAAAAAAA! Aimee tried telling Judy that Eskies will steal your heart!!

I already had my surgery and am doing very well. I had two very large elliptical shaped mammary glands cut out. The vet is optimistic that they got enough out that it hasn't spread further. They spayed me at the same time. I am very happy. I go back in a couple weeks to have my wounds checked.

The vet and Mom were talking about my teeth, saying they are a mess! I have a broken tooth, and what teeth are not broken are very, very dirty. They said doing everything at one time was too much. Goods news is the vet already included my future visit in my total.

Thanks to my "EskieFriends", my bill of $616 will be paid in full. Aimee says I owe my life to YOU, my EskieFriends!!

Thank you Aimee Moore and all the people at the shelter for believing in me. Thank you Judy for giving me a forever home. Thank YOU for helping me pay my bill and giving me.....a second chance at LIFE!! I am priceless and worth EVERY penny. Afterall, 11 is not THAT old!

Eskie Hugs & Kisses, Luv & Licks,
Luv ya,
The beautiful Eskie Alex

UPDATE: March 14, 2001. Test results came back....NO CANCER! Alex "Bean"(her new nickname) and her Mom are soooo happy! Thanks to everyone for saving this girl's life....if it weren't for the EskieFriends funds helping in this case, Alex would most likely have been PTS(Put to sleep).

Address comments, questions, etc. on items to Pat Cassel at pcassel@pa.net !

Giving Life a Second Chance...
These auctions/raffles are held to help needy eskies(and sometimes eskie friends!). It is through the generous help of EVERYONE that we have been able to do so much together! If you can donate an item(though doggy items are most welcome, all kinds of donations are encouraged), please consider doing so. If you want to help, but don't want to "shop", let Pat know as she often gets some great items at great prices, and you can donate items by utilizing her "resources". You can also consider donating via the "Lunchbox Crew". Or possibly other ways.....it is ALL that we do together that helps! And, don't forget, the auctions and raffles are GREAT ways to find some common(as well as not so common) items....MANY eskie and dog related...spread the word!!! If you are looking for an item, let Pat know, and she can add it to the "Wishlist"....MANY items have shown up on the auctions via such requests! We will have another auction together before long, so do contact Pat if you are interested in helping......together...we can all help out in...
